Pulling is the act of applying force to the body in a direction that separates the joint surfaces to relieve muscle stiffness and reduce pain from pressure on the spine.

Traction can be divided into two forms:

1. Cervical Traction or pulling the cervical spine

2. Lumbar Traction or pulling the lumbar spine

Effects of back traction and neck traction

- Stretching muscles to reduce spasms

- Reduce the pressure on the joints of the cervical vertebrae or the back.

- Reduce compression on the spinal nerves by pulling to widen the space between the vertebrae

- Reduce pressure on the intervertebral discs and reduce protrusion of intervertebral discs by widening the space between the vertebrae
