Things to know about the package
3 infectious diseases in adults to watch out for
1. Diphtheria
This is a disease caused by a type of bacterial infection. It is easily transmitted through contact with secretions or droplets in the saliva, phlegm, or mucus of a patient or carrier if they breathe, cough, or sneeze on each other. This infection has an incubation period of approximately 1-7 days. Once infected, it causes severe inflammation of the throat, resulting in a blockage of the airways. It also causes complications, which can lead to myocarditis and neuritis. The incidence of diphtheria is high in adolescents and adults because the immunity gained from vaccination in childhood is reduced.
Symptoms of diphtheria
When infected, there will be a low fever, headache, chills, sore throat, difficulty swallowing, swollen lymph nodes in the neck, nausea, vomiting, severe fatigue. If there is inflammation of the larynx, there will be coughing, hoarseness. In some cases, if the symptoms are severe, there may be difficulty breathing and death.
2. Pertussis
It is a contagious disease of the respiratory system. It is caused by bacteria called pertussis, which are found in the throats of patients with the disease in the early stages. It is spread by direct contact with secretions from the infected person, causing inflammation of the respiratory tract lining. The incubation period is about 7-14 days, causing severe coughing until breathing is difficult.
Symptoms of pertussis
Initial symptoms are similar to the flu, with a low fever, sneezing, and a runny nose. Then there will be a series of coughs. The coughing is often severe and continues for more than 3 weeks until the patient feels very tired and exhausted. There may be visible bulging veins in the neck, or broken blood vessels in the whites of the eyes or urine leakage. For those who have not been vaccinated or have not received the full dose, complications can be life-threatening.
3. Tetanus
Tetanus is a disease caused by toxins from bacteria called tetanus. Tetanus is a serious and painful infection that affects the nervous system, causing the muscles in the jaw and neck to twitch. When the toxins enter the nervous system, it takes months for the patient to recover from a tetanus infection. After the bacteria enter the body through a wound, symptoms will start within the first few days and may last for several weeks. The incubation period is 5 days to 15 weeks, but is most common between 6 and 15 days.
Tetanus Symptoms
Tetanus symptoms include: Initially, there will be periodic pain and muscle spasms, a stuck jaw, a stiff neck, swallowing problems, abdominal muscles, and painful muscle spasms that last for several minutes, especially the muscles that help with breathing, which can make breathing difficult and fatal. Muscle spasms are triggered by jerking, loud noises, touch, or bright lights, sweating, high blood pressure, and a rapid heart rate.

2. Age 19-64 years: It is recommended to get a Tdap shot at least once in their lifetime. After that, get a tetanus-diphtheria-pertussis (Tdap) shot or a tetanus-diphtheria (Td) vaccine every 10 years.

Side effects
Severe allergic reactions to diphtheria, tetanus, pertussis (Tdap) vaccine are rare, but side effects can occur, such as swelling at the injection site, headache, fatigue, nausea, vomiting, and fever. However, these symptoms are usually mild and resolve on their own within 2-3 days.
