About This Service
Iron-deficiency anemia is the most common cause of anemia. It occurs when the body lacks iron, a key component in the production of red blood cells. This results in the body producing fewer red blood cells, and the size of the red blood cells decreases, reducing the oxygen supply to various parts of the body. Symptoms of iron-deficiency anemia may include fatigue, weakness, shortness of breath during physical exertion, dizziness, lightheadedness, excessive sleepiness, rapid heartbeat, chest pain, brittle nails, hair loss, dry skin, and paleness. However, in some patients, the body adjusts to the condition, making them unaware of the abnormal symptoms. Some individuals may discover iron-deficiency anemia during routine health checks, even without any noticeable symptoms.
