About This Service
Dengue fever is transmitted through bites from Aedes mosquitoes, which act as vectors for the disease. If the mosquito bites a person infected with the virus and then bites another person, the virus can spread continuously.
There are two species of Aedes mosquitoes responsible for spreading the disease. The first is the Aedes aegypti (house mosquito), which breeds in stagnant water found around the home, such as in water containers, flower vases, unused jars, and tires left outside where rainwater can accumulate. The second is the Aedes albopictus (forest mosquito), which breeds in water collected in garden areas, tree hollows, and other places where rainwater can collect.
Epidemiologically, water sources that accumulate and breed mosquito larvae are most commonly found in residential areas, as well as in places like temples and schools.
